With hectic lives, busy kids and long work hours it's hard to plan family meals. We tend to take out, order in and never spend time enjoying the fun in creating a meal together. It only takes a few extra minutes a week to plan these fun family dinners together.
Plan a "help yourself" family buffet. Dinner ideas can include tacos, quesadillas, subs or wraps. Set out several different types of meats (also a good way to use leftovers), veggies, cheese, and condiments. This is a great way to please picky eaters and also to encourage everyone to try something new. Have even more fun with this by voting on the most creative meal. The winner can be exempt from cleaning up.
Making pizza is another idea that is not only fun and creative, but very easy. Choose ready-made pizza crusts or use tortillas, English muffins, pita bread or sliced Italian bread. Experiment with different toppings, cheeses and sauces. Younger family members (and old) may have fun creating faces with their pizza toppings. Again, have fun voting for the best pizza.
Have an oven munchies night. Plan the meal around anything that can go from freezer to oven. Chicken tenders, mozzarella sticks, french fries, and pizza bites are good for starters. Serve with several dips or sauces on the side so that everyone can have fun dunking. Don't forget to line your baking sheets with aluminum foil and cooking spray for easy clean up.
Sometimes the most fun family dinners are those that are not planned, but where anything goes. This is a great idea for a stress-free meal after a busy day. These types of meals can also be very healthy and nutritious. And can include anything you have on hand such as fresh fruit, veggies and dip, chips with salsa, cheese cubes, peanut butter and crackers, yogurt and lean meats.
These are just a few ideas to get you started. See how many more ideas you can come up with for fun family dinners.
